Zoo Theme for preschool and kindergarten, centers and activities
This Preschool Zoo pack is loaded with fun activities. I especially like the real images that are sprinkled throughout this product. The animal hunt around the room, writing pages, and mystery animal CVC are some of the highlights of this pack! Here's what's all included:
•Theme board pictures: Pictures you can use for a theme board or stick puppets. I like to put them up at the start of a new unit and have my little guess what we are going to be learning about!
•Centers Boards: Numbers and cards to use in a pocket chart to rotate centers.
•Patterned Numbers 1-31: Numbers are great for a calendar. This is a great way to sneak in some conversations about patterns during calendar time. Have students guess what color apple will come next, what number will come next, and have them count up to the day.
•Question of the Day: Post the question of the day in a pocket chart, bulletin board, or poster in the same place every morning for students to respond Yes or No. This is a great activity to kick off circle time! *Tip: Laminate the yes/no on colored paper, Red or Green to last for other units!
•Writer’s Workshop: Picture card vocabulary words, post cards, writing pages, list it, describe the picture
•Gross Motor game for Brain Breaks: Pick an animal card at random, and act it out for your friends to guess! Try first to act it out without any sounds. These also make great brain breaks or circle time wiggle breaks!
•Dear Zoo Book Companion: After reading Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell, choose which animal you would want from the zoo, and write a letter to the zoo asking for it!
•Count and color (1-8) 2 pages
•Count and color (1-5) & (6-10)
•Trace, Cut and Paste number order (1-10)
•Scavenger Hunt Counting and Graph: Count each animal and write your answer at the bottom. Then, graph how many on the Scavenger Hunt Graph Page.
•Zoo Animal Alphabet Mini Book: Practice writing your letters and learning your letter sounds with this mini book. Color it too!
•Alphabet ClipCards with read photographs
•Color the beginning sound, 3 versions
•Alphabet Sorting Pages , 13 pages: Cut, sort, and paste the animals/letters into the correct zoo enclosure.
•Handwriting: (1-20) (A-Z) (a-z)
•CVC Word activities: CVC word work! 6 pages, Figure out the mystery word by writing or stamping the beginning sounds of each picture. Then, color the picture that matches the CVC word at the bottom.
•Sight Word Zoo Book: Read and color the sight word book. Use the Sight Word Search Page to practice writing your color words, and to hunt for the sight words in the book.
•Color by Letter: 2 pages
•Make it! STEM planning sheet, resource ideas, and 4 task cards
•Puzzles cut and glue: Use the clues to match the pictures and complete each puzzle. A glue guide mat is included with each puzzle.
•Finish the picture cut and paste
•Paper Puppets: Print the puppets on cardstock for sturdy puppets. Students can color, fold, and play! These are great for retelling stories or creating a puppet theater show.
•Cut and paste to label the parts of an elephant. Place the picture cards around the room. Students go on a walk-about to find each animal, and record the number that matches the cartoon and real photograph. Students can then trace the zoo animal words.*Tip: this is also fun to do with stuffed animals if you have them!
•Brag Bracelets and tracking sheet: Here’s a great way to encourage little ones for good behavior, and keep parents in the loop! A checklist to keep track is included. *Tip: use tallies to keep track if using brag bracelets from my other units!
•Animal Cage Craft: Print, color, cut and glue animals onto a paper plate. Punch 4 holes 1 in. apart on top and holes parallel on the bottom. Use these to lace yarn to make bars as an enclosure for your animals.
•Animal Coverings Match Center: Match each animal to its covering.
•Animal Tracks: Draw a line to match each animal to its track.
I hope you find this useful with the littles in your life! Happy Teaching!
