While the files were being used, I encouraged the learners to start with their fingers in the air and then trace the letter there. I then used whiteboards followed by paper. They worked in stations for this, so there were about eight at a time engaged with the handwriting and there were two other activities that ran at the same time; also, rubbers are discouraged and rather, do it better next time," is repeated.
With the formation of each letter, I start by saying, "Slide along...," then describe how to make the letter go around the 'picture' and finish with, "...and flick." Make up your own text to go with the image or send me a message and I can give you some ideas.
You would be amazed at how easy it is for the learners in class to recite the phrase to remember the letter formation.
