The North Star Board Game

Board Game VERSION 1

  1. Put the word cards face down into a deck (use the cards that have complete words -- no missing letters).
  2. Take turns drawing one card at a time. If you read the word correctly you can move to the next corresponding vowel pattern (ee, ea, ey) on the board.
    1. Alternative: read the word card to the students (don’t show them the card) and have he/she spell the word in the correct column on their recording sheet and then move to the next corresponding vowel pattern (ee, ea, ey) on the board.

3. Record your words on the recording sheet.

4. The first person to make it to finish is the winner.

Board Game VERSION 2

  1. Put the word cards face down into a deck (use the cards that are missing letters).
  2. Take turns drawing one card at a time. Move to the next (closest) corresponding vowel pattern (ee, ea, ey)) on the board that will correctly complete the word.
  3. Record your words on the recording sheet.
  4. The first person to make it to finish is the winner.

The North Star Card Game

  1. Students take turns drawing a card.  If they read it correctly, they get to keep it.  If not, return it to the pile.
    1. Optional: have students record their words using the recording sheet.
  2. If a student pulls a card with directions they must follow those directions; you may choose to add as many of those cards as you wish.
  3. Game ends when the draw pile is gone.  The player with the most cards wins.
