I designed this resource to help teach my students about choosing appropriate conjunctions to make a compound or complex sentence. It is a hands on way to introduce the ideas of clauses and how these can be joined by a conjunction.
Each sentence starter (Clause 1) has 4 interchangeable endings (Clause 2 with punctuation) that match, and each requires a different conjunction to make sense. The 4 matching endings are all in the same colour, so once they find one sentence that makes sense, they will know which others to switch for and can simply change the conjunction! There are a range of simple and some more challenging conjunctions in the pack.
If you also wanted to discuss the use of commas in complex sentences, you can get your students to add these to their sentences in using a whiteboard marker!
A great activity for Literacy Rotations!
