Holidays come and go. Holiday words appear during their fleeting season, and then once the season is over, they disappear until the following year. Wouldn’t it be nice to incorporate holiday words into your language arts? Not just for recognition in reading, but also for spelling, too?
You can find letter tiles just about anywhere- teacher supply vendors, dollar stores, Walmart-type stores, Scrabble game, etc. If you can’t find the letter tiles…no problem. We have included
paper letter tiles for the words in this product.
12 Halloween words are presented in this project. These could be used as literacy center activities. Tell the students that they will be tested on these words along with their regular spelling words. The Halloween words will be “bonus” words. No points off if the words are spelled incorrectly, BUT they will get extra points if the words are spelled correctly.
Each work mat (task card) features a different word with a Halloween theme. Students use letter tiles to duplicate the words in the tile-sized boxes of the work mat.
Each card has extra word tile boxes to use the letter tiles from the featured word to build other words consisting of 2,3,4,5 letters. Answers are on the back of each work mat.
Extension Activity: How many more words can be made using only the letters in the featured word on the card? (beyond what the card is asking for) Can be written on separate paper. All possible answers are provided in this product.
