Here are 20 fantastic game mats for coin recognition and determining values for coin combinations. Laminate them for repeated use.
With the mats are visual aids, suggestions for teaching coin identification and how to count coins, a spinner, and challenge mats.
Clear photos of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters are depicted in the visual aids. The fronts and backs of these coins are shown as well as the most common "versions" of the coins. (for instance, the wheat, Lincoln, and shield pennies) Every photo of each coin is true to life...they are the same size as real coins.
Each mat features a pumpkin "jackolantern face" made with
circles that fit the size of the coins. The circles also have the appropriate coin values printed inside of them as well as colored rims that match the colors of coins (copper or silver-gray). The mats introduce the coins incrementally. Pennies alone, nickels alone, dimes alone, then quarters alone are introduced first. Next the mats introduce 2 of each of these coins together, then 3, and finally all 4. The challenge pages introduce paper currency with the coins. The denominations of paper currency are $1.00, $5.00, and $10.00.
It's best to play the game with real coins. However, if that's not possible, this product provides you with paper coins that you simply print out on cardstock and cut out. Minimum: 2 players.
Coin recognition and determining individual/combination coin values can be done without playing the game, if that's the preferred method.
This works well in centers, one on one, and small groups.
Kids have a blast with these and they learn so much!
