Portland Headlight in the State of Maine is the most photographed and painted lighthouse in the world.
Here I have created an outline for use in my adult ed. painting class; but it can be used for middle school and high school, also. Students can copy the image with brush in a light tan outline, or in pencil, then add the sea and sky, followed by painting details.
You can google the Portland Headlight to find the colors of the lighthouse in Maine. The windows are outlined in green paint, and the roof is a bright crimson red. We used Ultramarine blue and Phthalo blue for the seas and sky.
The same colors of blue were used for the sailboat painting project. The background hills are typical of the Maine seacoast.
The students coped the boat with pencil, then worked on coloring the sea and sky, experimenting with different mixtures, including adding a touch of red to the blue, in the case of the more purple sea.
We had a 3 hour class, and most students were done in 2.5 hours.
