"changED" is an original collection of 10 songs (MP3 format) dedicated to our daughter, Hannah.

Tradition begins and ends with change.

Everything must change - and STAY changED.

I hope these 10 songs help to show the path.

They present wisdom earned through lessons learned about life, liberty, and the pursuit of equality.

How To Use This Resource

This download includes a PDF containing each song's lyrics.

I use the songs and lyrics to inspire, inform, and engage students via traditional (and non-traditional) individual and / or team critical thinking and creative writing projects.

These projects include (but are not limited to) debates, essays, public speaking, poetry & songwriting (and performance), field trips, short videos (like public service announcements), and letter writing campaigns.

These projects help students to weigh and consider current events through the tools of empathy, analysis, synthesis, mentoring, mediation, and problem solving.

Our goal is to help them to become engaged and invested in the process of change - by finding and using their "voice" and gifts.

I am looking for a few courageous school leader & teacher collaborators to help me share our approach with classrooms across our nation.

Please reach out to me at, and check out our other "standup storytelling" work at!

1. "GRASPP" - Creating change requires a "real-time" battle plan that can GRASPP, evaluate, and adjust in the middle of a fight.

2. "sing a song" - You can make a whole new song - that speaks to our present-day plight - out of song & movie titles from albums & CDs that you have "sitting in the crates".

3. "the formula" - "Spare me all these details, man ... just tell me what I need to know (about life)."

4. "issues" - Sometimes the cause masks the agenda. Sometimes the cause masks our issues.

5. "self-control" - We have to keep the 7 “mind molding” institutions (religion, medicine, government, arts & entertainment, media, education, and the family) honest, accountable, and true to the game by following the rules of self-control ...

6. "power" - Power is the ability to work efficiently - that is, via wise and skillful use of resources, interests, communication, and expertise.

7. "the matrix" - Segments of our society are marginalized because of their knowledge. They see and say an uncomfortable truth about how we sometimes get in our own way.

8. "old school" - "Culture" and "tradition" are often misnomers for "this is how we do it, and it ain't changing." Everything must change, though - and STAY changed.

9. "the equalizer" - Equality depends on opportunity AND circumstances. Work to create both for people ...

10. "changED" - The times, they are a changin' - but the challenges are still the same ...

About The Artist

My name is Derrick Brown.

I am Keisha's husband.

I am Hannah's father.

I am a "standup storyteller."

I use oratory, spoken word poetry, rap, singing, and teaching to craft and deliver creative, compelling messages over tight beats.

My *other* passion is empowering people via methods that balance skill & will, analysis & synthesis, ideas & execution, and activity & achievement.

I am the product of my mentoring relationships, peacemaking (and peacekeeping), and problem-solving ability.

I am a publisher, filmmaker, executive coach & registered mediator with engineering degrees from Clemson and Georgia Tech.

My education began when I finished school.

After school, I enrolled in a lifelong curriculum that includes the following classes ...

ministry (serving people)
entrepreneurship (developing solutions that serve people)
stewardship (taking care of relationships, possessions, talents, body, mind, and time)
literacy (reading & writing skills)
numeracy (math skills)
language (communication skills)
self-expression (sharing "who you are")
self-identity (knowing "who you are")
analysis & synthesis (solving problems & sharing solutions)

KnowledgeBase is a ministry that has evolved from wisdom earned through lessons learned.

I want to share this wisdom to build teams of "triple threat" fellows - mentors, mediators, and problem solvers.

We will collaborate in simple, powerful ways that allow us to help people.

I now know that power is work done efficiently (with wise and skillful use of resources, interests, communication, and expertise).
