Directions: Print the words on paper or cardstock if possible. Cut out the words. Laminate them if possible. Have students play a matching game with the parts of words. As they flip the cards, they must sound out each “chunk” and “glue” it together with the other word chunk they flipped to try to create a word. If they can create a word- all players must agree the word is actually a word. They may ask the teacher to be a judge in the event the players cannot agree. Use the word list page to have students record the words they create to be collected as an informal assessment.
Variation: The cards can be printed, mixed, or edited in the word doc to be leveled for student need and abilities. The cards can also be modified and printed in “zoom” for students who need larger cards or bigger fonts. The font is Arial 48.
