Engaging, hands on, and interactive coloring page and foldable for the circulatory system.
Students color a cartoon style diagram of the human heart and complete a vocabulary foldable. QR codes are included that guide students to short video clips that review the structure and function of the human heart. Even struggling students can feel successful as they work independently!
Perfect addition to any circulatory system / body systems lesson. Activity was developed and sized for interactive notebooks or science journals. However, this lesson would work equally as well as a traditional homework assignment or as classwork. Great as review or test study guide. No prep required! Would work well as a substitute assignment if desired. Full teacher key included.
Addresses many common core and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Lesson was created for elementary and middle school students and reinforces many English language arts common core standards (such as: “Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context”).
Approximately one to two class periods in length (as a point of reference, I teach a 50-minute class).
For my fellow Texans: this lesson is aligned with Texas TEKS 7.12 (b), but will work with any curriculum that includes body systems, or biological structure and function.

Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) addressed in this lesson:
Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a whole and ways parts of cells contribute to the function.
This standard is covered in the activity. Students color the model heart and define terms regarding the function of specific structures of the human heart
Systems and system models. Systems may interact with other systems; they may have sub-systems and be a part of larger complex systems.
This standard is covered by analyzing the key structures of the heart and the overall role they play in the delivery of oxygen to the entire body.
