Students first do a "Close reading" of text, to break down text exploring style, literary devices, patterns, and general elements of the text.
They then create their own version.
Finally, they edit it, using the revision checklist, and produce a final copy. Each lesson takes about two 50 minutes and has been massively successful in my class!
I teach a modified English language class of students that are 12-15 years old, but their reading level is between grade 1-grade 6. This has worked for everyone!
