This Interactive PDF contains 140 WORD DISCRIMINATION PAIRS for AUDITORY TRAINING with children with hearing loss utilizing hearing aids and/or cochlear implants.
This resource is perfect to supplement various speech perception hierarchies (such as the Auditory Learning Guide by Beth Walker) that utilize word pairs differing by sound features to improve word discrimination. It assists in targeting auditory skills of children utilizing listening and spoken language via auditory verbal therapy. It can also be used for targeting auditory processing skills.
The following word/minimal pairs are included:
(10 word pairs of each type unless otherwise specified)
▶ Same initial consonant, different vowel & final consonant
i.e. "cake" vs "kite"
▶ Same final consonant, different vowel & initial consonant
i.e. "mop" vs "cap"
▶ Same initial and final consonant, different vowel (20 word pairs included)
i.e. "mice" vs "moose"

i.e. "neck" vs "net"
Each page has one pair of words, including the pictures, written words, and 10 boxes for each of the 2 words that can be digitally checked with an "X" (see VIDEO PREVIEW for a demo). After you say a word, the child can identify which word he/she heard by touching the box under the corresponding picture, making it easy and motivating to get lots of trials.
There is also a clickable MENU page so that you can quickly access the type of word discrimination that you're targeting. Each of the 140 pages also has quick links back to the menu and to the previous and next pages.
This resource is included in a zipped file, with another PDF containing word lists of all 140 word pairs and their corresponding page numbers. This way you can quickly find a specific word pair if needed. It also includes a place for data and a few notes next to each pair if you want to use the page to keep data or monitor progress.
With this resource, you will have a versatile auditory training activity at your fingertips! Plus, kids love that they are pushing a "button" to discriminate the minimal pair words.
