Product Description
This document asks students to make a Text-to-Text connection between "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan which appears in the 7th grade Pearson anthology my school uses and the poem "Push" by Marty Schoenleber. The two pieces are perfect for a dual-text-analysis.
The document begins with questions about "Two Kinds". It moves on to the full text of the poem, and asks students to apply the ideas expressed in the poem to the characters in "Two Kinds".
I have provided the full text of the poem, but you can also watch the poet performing his piece "spoken word style" at https://www.youtube.com/watchv=POKvyjfI22Q . My students thoroughly enjoyed watching the poet perform his work, and I think it really brought more meaning to the Amy Tan piece.
