As you know, kids till 10-11 y.o. need material understanding. So the best way to teach anything is to use real subjects and motor activities.
An easy and efficient way to give our kids understanding of fractions. It works great with a special activity:
- take 4 circles and a paper (A4)
- the kid attaches a circle to the paper, it is called "a whole"
- the kid folds the circle and cuts it - "1/2"
same way with 1/4, 1/8
repeat with a strip of a paper: 1/5, 1/10
after that the kid can answer the question: which part is more - 1/4 or 1/8? 1/5 or 1/10?
