This calendar activity has been created to provide your student or small group with many opportunities to develop oral language. The dates and months should be cut out and velcro can be attached. Once the velcro is attached to the calendar, the activity could be used in the following ways:
The child can be asked to copy or tell the date, in a complete sentence. ie. Today, is Monday, January 1.
The colors for the dates are done for patterning. The child could be asked to say what color comes next.
Each of the months are colored, representing a theme or holiday that takes place. The child can be asked about the color and it can begin a dialogue.
The 5W’s can be asked about yesterday, today, tomorrow etc. as well as what will take place on special days of the month or weekend.
The activity can be attached to the outside of a file folder and strips of velcro can be used inside the folder to hold the dates and months when they are not in use.
