This is the 11th lesson in the Changing the World: Persuasive Speeches, Petitions, and Editorials Unit of Study by Lucy Calkins and Kelly Boland Hohne. Following is a bonus lesson on using linking words in opinion writing. I am currently working on the whole unit. I will bundle them together as I complete each bend if you can wait, otherwise you can buy individual lessons as I post them. These lessons are not meant to replace the lessons in the guide; it is important to read those because they give a more detailed picture of how the workshop may go. This is for teachers like me who are using the program and still need a formal lesson plan written up. These lessons include all components, including the common core standards, and photos of anchor charts that can be used in the classroom. Also included is a section of the class text that can be printed to create a demonstration chart, and a Transitional Words and Phrases for Opinion Writing list to duplicate for student use. You can modify the lessons to accommodate your teaching style, and your students’ needs. The mid workshop teaching point isn’t included because it can go differently in every classroom, and therefore needs to be addressed with the needs of the students in mind.
