The activity posted looks similar to a word sort, but instead of sorting words the kids are looking for words in their books that have the same word patterns. I call it a word hunt. Once a child finds a word that has the matching vowel pattern they need to read the words and highlight the vowel parts or patterns. This strategy will help with the "what parts do you know" reading strategy. It can also be a great activity for students to do if they finish work early to differentiate. My students love it and it motivates them to find as many words as they can.
