This would be a good mini-unit for Memorial Day or Veterans Day. This mini, 3 day unit explores the roles of dogs in the military, the types of breeds used, and how the dogs are trained. In addition, there are three bonus activities. One is a map of the middle east. There is also a map of Afghanistan and a math activity which includes questions. This is more than enough for three days of English class.
This three day unit requires students to:
Identify the main idea of the passage.
Identify the sentences that support the main idea of the passage.
Identify statements that correspond with the author’s point of view.
Analyze data in graphs.
Create a graph and interpret the graph.
