Sometimes kids need to reflect and take responsibility in ways that go beyond knowing an action was wrong. Logical consequences paired with student choice allow students to understand and take ownership over their choices and share with families. Many ask about “community service.” If someone is misusing supplies, then a logical consequence would be to help the class organize or ready supplies. However, if it is related to incomplete work or interactions with a peer or even difficulty lining up and walking in line quietly, I classify community service as making PSAs after creating a poster or top 3/5/10 lists to teach classmates or another group of kids altogether.
This product includes different versions of the reflection sheet along with a letter and link to the letter so you can explain to families the purpose and use of the reflection sheet.
