pH is a tough concept for many students to grasp, so I created this lab to use household items.
Students work in group of 4. Each is given small samples of the solutions and a pack of pH strips. These strips have 4 color blocks that will react with acids and bases (much like pool testing strips). They test each solution and find the pH using the strips. I then have them graph the pH on a number line and answer conclusion questions.
This lab activity takes one lab period to complete (questions may take some students a bit longer).
