Product Description
This power point is a good lesson for the beginning of the school year or just before or after “New years’”, since we make predictions for the coming year.
We approach this topic from different points of view:
The philosophical and historical, The scientific, The humorous, And the technological.
We also talk about the difference between predictions and prophecies so I suggest treading carefully and making sure that our definitions are not judgmental, so as not to hurt anyone’s feelings.
Use the work paper to encourage them to think “big”, think “crazy” and think outside the box.
Save these papers, so you can see who got it right.

THIS PRESENTATION CONTAINS A 53 SLIDE POWERPOINT LESSON IN EDITABLE PPT FORMAT WITH A WORK PAPER AND TEACHER’S NOTES THAT ACCOMPANY THE LESSON.
This lesson includes:
Examples of failed prophecies and predictions.
What happens after a failed “end of the world” prophecy as opposed to what happens after a failed prediction.
Look at Nostradamus’ predictions and how we feel about these predictions? Are the ones he got right statistical probabilities or based on actual knowledge.
Compare them to Watkins’ predictions from 1900 and his amazing ability to foretell the future. Are the ones he got right statistical probabilities or based on actual knowledge? How are Watkins’ predictions different to Nostradamus’? how did his knowledge as an engineer help him to foresee and imagine the future.
The Simpsons’ predictions, done for entertainment and therefore not subjected to scientific and historical scrutiny.
Finally, we talk about predictive analytics, how we can use social media to predict the future (the danger of this material in the wrong hands), what we can and what can’t we predict, using this media.
The super skills and super performers. How can we use this information to predict our own future better?
This is a really good lesson for some group bonding.
I hope you enjoy this lesson
