Dolch Sight Words ~ Pre-Primer and Primer BINGO-Style Game: Cut and Paste
Are you looking for a fun and exciting way to practice Dolch Pre-Primer and Primer words with your students? Then why not try this BINGO-style game? My students absolutely love it!
Included you will find 3 Pre-Primer cut and paste game sheets and 5 Primer cut and paste game sheets along with a set of flashcards for each.
Each game sheet lists 30 words taken from the Dolch word list. The students cut apart the words, choose 24 of the words, and paste them randomly in the BINGO grid. The other words are discarded. (We usually make our BINGO cards in the morning, so the glue is dried by the time we play in the afternoon.)
The teacher or the “caller” shuffles the flashcards and calls a word out, giving students ample time to locate and cover the word on their grid with a BINGO chip, penny, or counting cube. The first player to get 5 in a row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally) wins! (I allow the winner to be the “caller” for the next game. They love that!)
The Pre-Primer Dolch words used are: a, and, away, big, blue, can, come, down, find, for, funny, go, help, here, I, in, is, it, jump, little, look, make, me, my, not, one, play, red, run, said, see, the three, to two, up, we, where, yellow, you
The Primer Dolch words used are: all, am, are, at, ate, be, black, brown, but, came, did, do, eat, four, get, good, have, he, into, like, must, new, no, now, on, our, out, please, pretty, ran, ride, saw, say, she, so, soon, that, there, they, this, too, under, want, was, well, went, what, white, who, will, with, yes
Another option: You may choose to simply cut the words off of the right side of a game sheet, put them in a small bag or baggie, and use them as calling cards instead of printing out the larger cards. Sometimes I choose this method, but I make sure to write the words on the Promethean Board so all students can see the words.
So grab some BINGO chips and have fun!
