Print, cut, laminate, use! Our reactions to problems need to match the size of our problems, otherwise we can make others feel uncomfortable by our unexpected reactions. I have moved away from the number scale and have found that by adding animals as a size qualifier the children are much more responsive, and understand the concept better. I recommend starting with small/medium/big, and moving to the 6 animals should you find they are ready for more differentiation.
(The small sizes are great to put on a student's desk.)
