PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Around the same time that students are learning about black history or the civil rights movement you could choose to include this lesson as an example of a tradition that developed thru oppression. It fits in perfectly with colonization and how the colonists used slave labor to colonize. This lesson helps see colonization through perspective other than European American. It can also be adapted for lessons on culture because work songs are used by more groups of people than the African American Colonists (examples: prisoners, factory workers, miners, cowboys, and seaman.)
