This activity can take from...no more than 10 minutes to a full hour, depending on the level of students and what you would like to do with it. While it focuses on basic classroom words (puerta, lápiz) and classroom language (hace frío, escribe en la pizarra) it is not a comprehensive review of either topic. The phrases and words here were gathered as a random spread from within these topics and presented with some words that students have to figure out (me allegro de verte, estoy fatal) Some of them can be annoying to teachers who don't use them in their own language, so look over the words carefully if you intend to use this...they can be easily edited. I have used this 15-20 minutes per sheet, and then had students write down a dictation of sentences that use these words, allowing for a quick measure of their patience, listening skills and writing in Spanish.
Notice also that some words are somewhat foreign to some spanish speakers (servicio, "a por agua" "ya está" ) as they are more precisely in those forms used in Spain.
If you are comfortable with a quick activity that helps show which students will get stuck easily and which ones take extra steps to solve problems, you will find use for this activity. Be sure to pull them all in at the end and explain that some tricky words are thrown in just for that purpose...to see how they manage. The most important lesson then is using target language to work through problems, ask questions.... No comprendo esta palabra....
