This cooperative review game focuses on Science TEKS 8.5A (Atomic Structure).
Several questions are from released 8th grade STAAR Science exams. I tweaked some questions to better fit the format of the game. I will update questions that are NOT STAAR released as more exams are released so that this fun activity may be increasingly more aligned to STAAR standards.
Object of the game: Close off more boxes than your opponent! Each player takes a turn connecting two dots with one line (diagonals are not allowed). The player who closes off a box answers the question inside the box. A point is earned if the question is answered correctly. If the player answers the questions incorrectly, the opponent may answer to earn a point. The player with the most points wins!
Students may keep a record of their points several ways, and they can get as creative as they want. For example, they may write their initials on the box where they earned points, they can tally on the side, or they can shade in their box a certain color (e.g., Player 1: Red, Player 2: Blue).
FUN TWIST: Have the students use dice to determine how many lines they will draw!
*Answer key is provided and may be printed double sided for students to check their answers as they play the game. You may also have them write ALL answers on a separate sheet of paper and take this as a grade!
