About the store
Science IS real; teaching real science doesn't have to be hard. Over the last 3+ decades, I've tried and revised a zillion strategies and methods that help students learn. Labs, activities, projects, inquiry learning - you name it, I've done it and posted the materials and strategies here for you, to make your life easier. I worked as a chemist in industry for a decade prior to obtaining teaching credentials. Since becoming a teacher, I've also taught SCUBA (mixed gas/technical instructor) and worked as an independent contractor in a virtual reality lab on a military base, designing materials to protect fighter planes. I've taught science methods at public state universities and had the privilege of facilitating accomplished teachers as they pursue National Board Certification. I've seen what works - and what doesn't work.

Teaching style

As influenced by my real-world science experience and connections, our classroom time is spent doing the real work that is most beneficial to student learning. Collaboration and creativity are key. Because accomplished teaching is more than worksheets and is certainly not easy, my store offers resources that my students have reported as being most helpful in their learning. My students are my best teachers.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Governor's Award for Excellence in Education; Outstanding Doctoral Student; Educator of the Year, 2 Crystal Apple Awards, and Franklin B. Walter Honored Teacher 2 years in a row (students select these awardees.)

My own education history

-BS in Agriculture with major hours in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science and Math. -MS.ED. Science Education -EdD. Science Education -National Board Certification Adolescent and Young Adult Science 1998, renewed through 2028. I've taught taught nearly every high school science as well as biology, chemistry, physics, and science methods to pre-service teachers at 4 public state universities. My dissertation chronicles what pre-service teachers did or did not learn about the moon while teaching over the Internet.

Additional biographical information

I am a public school classroom teacher with 30+ years experience teaching most every science 9-12 in 3 states as well as biology, chemistry, physics and science methods courses at 3 state universities. I've presented at various conferences and facilitate National Board candidates and renewals. If there's something you need, let me know and I will add it. I am slowly adding 30+ years of my original work. My science education blog, Making Science Real, can be found at Making Science Real https://makingsciencereal.com
