- Taught a young ESE student to read, tutored a struggling Senior in Spanish so he could graduate, and exited an ESL student (though he was my only one at the time). Technically these are my students' achievements, that's what makes them my greatest. : ) - Taught beginner-level ESL at an adult education program - Taught ESL & ESE grades K-2 - Taught Spanish and ESL on a volunteer basis through various community organization (library, literacy center, church, etc). - Learned Java and web application development - Designed instructional computer games and other activities for students
To sum it up in one word, "creative". With my unique set of computer, writing, and teaching skills, creating stuff works for me. When I understand where my students are at and what my they need to learn (whether imposed by the powers that be or not), that will let me know how to approach the subject matter.
- Rated "outstanding" in the area of educational technology in my yearly evaluation - Sigma Pi (honor society for Spanish) - and of course I'm actually fluent in Spanish : ) - Most importantly, students reach their goals. To be a part of that is a great honor.
My BA is in English and my Master's is in ESOL - funny how I picked up the Spanish (and programming of all things) along the way! :)
UPDATE: BACK IN ACTION : ) 4/3/2014 - It's been a long time since I've been on this site, but I've got some new ideas and I'm ready to put them out there. Now in addition to books, handouts and other stuff, I'll be developing software and other tools to help you do what you do. : )
