I have taught first, second, and third grade over the last 21 years. I have taught, gifted, average, and IEP students. I have looped with my students from grade 1-2, and taught a multi-age grade 1-2 for many years. I teach in a public, low-income school. I have anywhere from 18-25 students in my classroom. I am on my district's ELA committee and school's leadership team.
I strongly believe in differentiation, use of technology, and balanced literacy. I use a readers and writers workshop approach. I use small groups in math based on pretests of the curriculum being taught.
I was my school's Diamond Circle Teacher of the year in 2008.
I attended St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN and then graduated from the University of Missouri St. Louis with a BS in elementary education. I received my masters in Reading from Webster University. I am working on my +30 from Lindenwood University taking classes in gifted and character education.
I have been married for 16 years and have 3 children. I enjoy walking, reading, and swimming.
