My experience as an educator started at a catholic school in Down Town Los Angeles where I taught 1st grade for 6 years. I Then started teaching public school for LAUSD. I taught 3rd grade for the next two years and then I moved into middle school where I taught 6th and 7th grade in the Pico/Union area for 6 years. Currently I am teaching 5th grade in the Westlake area of Los Angeles.
My teaching style is center around making good relationships with my students first. I believe that having good relationships with your students helps with classroom management and drives students to work to their potential. While working at a middle school for 6 years, I have seen students purposely sabotage their education because they felt like that their teachers did not support or care for them. I have seen adult educators as well, under perform because they felt like their admin does not support them. Through these observations I have fashioned my teaching style into building positive relationships with my students first so that they can perform to their highest potential second.
Don't have any public honors or awards as that has never been my goal as an educator. I guess one of the biggest honors to me is when a student comes back to visit years later and we sit and reminisce.
I didn't do too well in high school so I had to go to community college. I spent 3 years at Los Angeles City College earning my AA in English. I then transferred to Cal State Los Angeles and I earned my BA in Social Work. I Spent a year in the field of social work and found out that I didn't like it. I heard that you didn't need a teaching credential to teach at a catholic school so I applied to one and was hired. During my 6 years at the catholic school I earned 2 Masters degrees in Education and my teaching credentials at Loyola Marymount University. About 10 years later I earned a Masters in Administration and a preliminary administration credential at Cal State LA. As you can see... I love school.
Some other things about me that might be interesting is that I moved out of my parents home and got married at 18. I have 3 wonderful children and am still happily married (that's pretty amazing). I love to read and I probably read about 25 books a year in all different fields. working out is very important to me (as you can see by my logo and name). Eating healthy foods, getting tattoos, watching great movies, and spending time with my family are supper important to me.
