I teach 3rd grade self contained. I have taught Health/Tech to K-5 and I have also taught 7th and 8th grade Reading/Literature.
Our classroom, the students and mine, is a learner centered area where we focus on becoming sound problem solvers thorough the use of higher level questions, activities and also by having growth mindsets. We may not know the answer or "stink at math", but we just do not know the answer YET and stinking at math is a temporary easy fix with a positive growth mindset.
My short stories and poetry can be found in Perspectives Literary Magazing (2000) Inkling Literary Magazine (2005) Volt Literary Magazine (2011)
I graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from the University of Houston in 2010.
Being a teacher has its definite perks, like Summer and Spring Break, but the greatest allowance it gives us is the invitation to join our kids on their journey through understanding. I could not imagine holding another position, as my career, that would carry as much meaning. My husband is also a teacher; we share the desire to educate and the bliss that comes with it. I am also a mother to a messy, imaginative, beautiful 4 year old boy.
