I have been teaching for over 20 years, and my experience spans Pre-K through 12th grade. I am an advocate for project-based, authentic learning and have had the opportunity to work with children of different age groups and socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. I also founded a farm school where 3 and 4 year-olds interacted with numerous animals including chickens, pigs, alpacas, ducks, goats, horses and rabbits while integrating preschool skills. They learned academic skills, social skills, and the connection that we have to our land and the community. I encourage you to visit our blog to learn more about how we approach learning, http://24-caratclassroom.com.

Over the years, numerous students participated in writing contests and won awards. I have also served as a mentor for balanced literacy. Kate, with the help of other professions, took a school that was going to be closed and turned it around so it received the longest charter renewal possible in the state of New York.
