I have taught 4th grade in California for 16 years. I am in my 17th year teaching, currently in 3rd grade. I have also tutored children in math, reading comprehension, and writing. My daughters are in 3rd grade and 4 years old.
School should be fun for the students and for the teacher. While still teaching them what they need to know, I include as many interesting and fun variations of curriculum as I can. Students are much easier to motivate, help, and encourage when they like you and they know/think that you like them. I want my students to exercise respect and responsibility. Doing so is the expectation and the reward is a fun, educational, and pleasant learning environment. When they don't, they receive an appropriate level of my disappointment and consequences.
I am happily married and have two wonderful kids.
I graduated from U.C. Davis with a B.S. in Landscape Architecture and a minor in design. I earned extra units as a volunteer at the local elementary school. I followed my heart instead of my major, and got my teaching credential from SJSU after graduation.
I am proud of the fact that I have written and published four books with over 25,000 total sold to date. I love my job and I love my family. I appreciate my job and I value the time it gives me with my family.
