I am currently a reading specialist and director of our resource program in a private elementary school K-8th. I work with all grade levels. I've been teaching for 28 years. I was a classroom teacher for 18 years in Kindergarten and First Grade. I've worked as a reading specialist for 10 years. I have tutored many children privately who have dyslexia. After many years of tutoring dyslexic children in an Orton-Gillingham reading program I began writing my own program (based on the Orton-Gillingham method) to teach First Graders in the classroom. I implemented 4StepsReading in First Grade and saw my students reading take off. I have a passion for teaching reading!
As a reading specialist I teach reading to children in small groups or one-on-one. Some children take to reading easily, others need the gift of time. My reading program meets the needs of both types of readers. It allows children who come to reading easily the ability to move quickly through the reading process. With children who find learning to read difficult, the program provides a sequential, systematic, phonetic approach, that makes sense and allows them to learn at their own pace. 4StepsReading is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading and it works!
I was honored and blessed when my local public schools adopted my curriculum for their First Grade Classrooms in 2013.
I have a BS in Education from Northern Illinois University. I hold a current ACSI teaching credential. I am the creator and developer of the 4StepsReading program that is currently being used by First Grade teachers in their classrooms in small group instruction and by tutors, and homeschool parents. My program received a copyright in 2013. Check out my website at 4StepsReading.com
