This is my 6th year teaching in a 5th grade classroom. The school I teach at is diverse in culture and in learning abilities. I love teaching in such a rich atmosphere. Being an elementary educator means I get to teach all subjects. This is wonderful because the variety keeps me busy and lets me be creative with integration across subject areas. I enjoy learning and sharing my excitement for learning with my students.
I believe that strong classroom management is a key component to having a successful learning environment. Having set rules, procedures, incentives, and consequences helps me have the freedom to teach in a more creative way. I think that there is times for hands on learning and times for modeling and scaffolding. I think that technology is a tool and not a replacement for a great teacher. I also believe that collaboration is a great way for people to grow.
Yet to be added
I have a bachelors of science degree in Elementary education. I also have an ESL endorsement. I am one class away from my technology endorsement. Next fall I will be going back to school for my last three semesters of my Masters degree.
I am a mother of two boys, one is an adolescent and other is in elementary. I have a supporting husband who believes in me and loves me and my kids. I love learning and reading and I try every day to share this passion with my own kids and my students. I enjoy swimming, hiking, fishing, reading, dancing, and doing crafts.
