I taught high school Family Consumer Science for 3 years, high school self-contained Life Skills for 3 years, Elementary Students with Autism in a self-contained Structured Teaching Alternative Communication Classroom (STACC) for 5 years, and am currently an elementary Behavior Intervention Specialist.
I believe that students learn best from interacting with their environment and being introduced to new experiences. In addition I believe that students learn different things through various learning styles such as auditorily, kinestheticly, and visually. While we each learn best with one of the styles, we all learn from all of them. For this reason I use a lot of visuals and music in my classroom in addition to the hands-on learning opportunities.
