I began my teaching journey in Nashville, TN with MNPS. I taught second grade my first year in an inner city school, and it was QUITE a challenge to say the least! I learned so much that year and began my second year of teaching in the first grade. I absolutely loved it, but had to move to Clarksville, TN for military obligations. I was quickly hired at a wonderful school and began my career there by continuing to teach the first grade. My principal had observed me twice when she asked me to "try out" the fourth grade for a few days. She could see I wanted a challenge and needed to take my skills to an upper elementary classroom. After a few days in fourth grade- I KNEW that was where I was meant to be. I loved it. I thrived in that environment and so did the students. They weren't used to my energy yet- but I was ready to give it! The next year would be my first year in the fourth grade, and I survived to say the least. Lol. I loved the challenge, but what a change form what I had been used to. I not only survived that year, but grew a lot as a teacher. My husband and I moved back to Nashville, and I am currently in my 4th grade dream classroom. This will be my 5th year teaching (although it feels like much longer) and I am excited to grow my career teaching the fourth grade as dedicated (and tired lol) teacher.
I love to integrate technology and hands-on ENGAGING activities for students to learn! This is the way I learned as a student and I wish I would have had more opportunities to learn in these ways. I also like to provide my students with different strategies and routes of thinking. Not all of our students learn the same way, so I try to provide as many possibilities to create a successful environment!
