TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been privileged to teach just about every PK-8 grade level during the course of my 20 year career. I have also tutored students in many of the others, including high school and college levels, and now teach at my local community college.

MY TEACHING STYLE

One of my students used to tell her friends outside of my class that her teacher was "strict, but good." I believe in holding students to high, but attainable, standards and in holding them accountable for their behavior as well as for the quality of their work. I also taught my middle school students to be accountable for their own learning by providing resources for them to use in class, at home and online to aid and extend the learning process. I try to maintain a relaxed, but orderly, classroom where students are able to collaborate and try out different ideas to help them learn.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was a NC Teaching Fellow and coached a winning 4th and 5th grade MathCounts team and a middle school team that received the Most Improved Team award.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned an AB Ed in Elementary (K-6) with a mathematics concentration from UNC-Chapel Hill and an MEd from Mars Hill University. I also have earned many continuing ed hours learning Spanish at the local community college.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 23 years and have two wonderful boys who keep us busy. In our "spare" time :) my husband and I remodel our home and spend time watching movies. I also like to read, run, create materials for my students to use, and help others find wellness and freedom by using essential oils and other natural products.
