A Slice of NY Pi

Brianne is a Mathematics and Special Education Teacher at Prestige Academy of Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY. She is a recent graduate of Adelphi University, where she obtained her B.S. in Mathematics, and M.A. in Adolescent Education with an Advanced Certification in Special Education as part of the Scholar Teacher Education Program (STEP). At Prestige Academy, she is currently a technology mentor and a member of the Curriculum Committee and Steering Committee. Brianne is also an Apple Learning Coach for the Sewanhaka Central High School District. She has recently presented at the Long Island Alternative Educators Association and New York State Educators Association conferences. Brianne is excited to presenting at the National Alternative Educators Association conference in October 2022. In addition to NAEA, Brianne is currently a member of National Council of Teaching Mathematics, Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Council for Exceptional Children. Brianne hopes to pursue a PhD in Education.

Adelphi University -- B.S. in Mathematics; M.A. in Adolescent Education with a Specialization in Special Education

The Prestige Academy is the alternative school for the Sewanhaka CHSD for students grades 9-12 with unique challenges and/or abilities. Our school gives these students an opportunity to succeed in a different educational setting; we have small group classes, flexible seating, a condensed schedule, and extra support staff (psychologist, social worker, guidance counselor) available. We also incorporate social emotional learning into every academic class, daily. While Prestige Academy still prepares students to take the NYS Regents Examinations, we are more so focused on educating the whole student in a way that the traditional high school setting does typically not allow for.
