This is my 11th year teaching. I spent my first year teaching in Florida, but I quickly moved back home to begin teaching fifth grade at Quail Run Elementary School. After a nine-year stay in fifth, it was time to for a move to middle school. Currently I am an 8th grade Honors Language Arts teacher at Feagin Mill Middle School.
For elementary: my classroom is structured closest to a workshop model. However, it is often hard to pull 29 students to the carpet for a mini-lesson, so the model is a bit different. I feel my students learn best when I go through the process with them; therefore, when they write a narrative, expository, persuasive, or poetic piece, I do too...and not a piece that I use every single year, again and again. I like to model everything elaborately, and I constantly bring fresh ideas to my classroom to push my students as far as I can!
I was named teacher of the year for the 2008-2009 school year.
I received my undergrad from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. I earned my MEd. in Accomplished Teaching from Georgia Southern University in December of 2011. I earned my specialist degree from Piedmont College in December of 2015.
We are so thankful for the family God has given us. Stacey, my wife, is absolutely stunning and is my best friend. She is responsible for the design of our Teachers Pay Teachers products. My almost-9-year-old, Sadie, keeps us smiling and busy. She is so energetic, beautiful and loves art, dance and gymnastics. Our 5 year old son, Finn, is one happy, energetic, entertaining little guy. I like to play golf and fish when I get a minute or two; however, my favorite thing to do is yell at the Atlanta Braves on Sports South as often as I can.
