Teaching career began in patient and health education in 2001 in the setting of a sports medicine clinic. The development of exercise programs, nutritional plans and anatomy were the start of an excellent journey. Teaching Anatomy & Physiology and Sports Medicine came about in 2008 to work in an underserved community and develop a Career Pathway to prepare students for college and career. Ten years later the program has expanded to a 3 year pathway, certifications, job and college readiness, workbased learning opportunities and now at 12 schools in our district. In addition to this, we now have a collaborate health academy with core content areas developing PBL lessons, internships, engaging lessons, and cross-curriculum alignment for optimal student engagement and retention. I continue to work in the healthcare field, bring business tools and strategies to the classroom for leadership and organizational health while enjoying every bit of teaching. Lastly, as now a grant coordinator overseeing these items I have the privilege of developing a district wide health clinic to provide services to our students and community.
Interactive learning environment for students to engage, explore, extend and evaluate their learning through collective principles of project/problem based learning, case studies, prior experience, service learning projects, cross curricular alignment and work based learning opportunities to obtain knowledge and apply beyond the walls of the classroom. Some examples include: public service announcements for community on diabetes, intergenerational bridging with local skilled nursing facility to improve quality of life, and the prosthetic hand challenge.
