I've been teaching for three years now and am still growing. Last year the administration at my school encouraged me to take up our study skills class. It was a great opportunity for me to build an entirely new curriculum that best fit the needs of my students.
A wise person once said that if you ‘give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime.” My goal as an educator is to teach my students to think for themselves, so that they will continue to use their cognitive skills long after they’ve left my class. I believe learning is a lifelong process that needs to be fostered at an early age to stimulate a desire for higher level understanding. I want my students to realize the extent of opportunities available to them, if only they were to open their mind.A student centered teaching approach is something I firmly believe in. The reason I’m in the classroom is for my students, to help them achieve, to help them understand. In order to create a successfully learning environment I believe there must be a collaborative effort between teachers and students, as well as collaborations between different students and between different teachers. I feel the education community should unite to create a better learning experience for students.
