I began my career in education as a substitute teacher in special education classrooms, moved up to classroom assistant/paraprofessional, then to classroom teacher, primarily with children on the Autism Spectrum. I taught for 3.5 years in a charter school for students with Autism and Developmental Disabilities and am teaching my fifth year in public school. Our group of SpEd classrooms are known as the A-Team, or Acceptance Team, to align to our school's PBIS expectation of Acceptance of all students.
I've often found it difficult to find just what I need when teaching my students and have to modify a good deal. I have fallen in love with the Unique Learning System Symbol Stix picture program. I enjoy teaching students with special needs and especially love teaching students who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. I hope these products are as useful to you as they have been for me.
