I am special education teacher for students with moderate to severe diagnosis at a public school where inclusion is accepted and expected. I am in my 6th year of teaching. I was a Para-Educator for 7 years while obtaining my teaching credential. In my classroom, I address all academic subject areas as well as life/functional skills, community based instruction, cooking, and behavior management. I also run a Peer Tutor Program where student on our campus come into my classroom and work with my students or go out with my students into their general education classes. The main goal of my program is to educate our youth about what different disabilities are, how we can effectively teach ALL students, and how to advocate for those who may not know how to.
My teaching style and techniques used in my classroom are based on evidence based research practices. I provide a visual environment with schedules and pictures to ensure a literacy rich environment. To help promote independence, as well as provide all students with confidence, I am constantly creating and modifying work to meet the individual needs of my students. I incorporate a variety of learning modalities throughout our day. I enjoy providing hands-on activities to keep the students engaged and wanting to learn more!
