Welcome! I am on my 9th year teaching elementary school. I teach 5th grade (ESL) inclusion in Texas, although I have also taught in Missouri and Kentucky. My specializations are math and science, which are both state tested in Texas. I am certified to teach general education for K-9, English as a Second Langage K-12, and Talented and Gifted Education (TAG) K-12.
As an ESL teacher I like to make even basic work interactive, which makes my classroom culture more engaging for EVERYONE. My goal is to teach all interdisciplinary units based on students' interests, but as a teacher I know that's not always possible. Even in my more traditional work I incorporate my ESL pedagogy to include visual and or kinesthetic elements and make learning fun.
Good Apple Award (peer nominated)-- My co-workers love me! Probably my most prestigious award. Standard of Excellence in Mathematics (title one achievement award for improving scores) Teach for America alumni...I was actually a teacher before I joined the corps! I'm a rare bird!
