I have taught Art in both Junior High and High School for 32 years. My art lessons are used in over 10,000 public and private schools worldwide with several lessons developed at the suggestions of art teachers from all over the country. Although I have taught all aspects of art from jewelry-making to ceramics, over 90% of my experience comes from teaching drawing, painting and design.
After I present the assignment or learning activity I become a one-on-one teacher. I want every single student to succeed at drawing and spend the entire remainder of the period helping individual students where needed. I tell the kids that they are graded only on their own progress and effort. I've found that every student can achieve some success. Drawing is simply putting lines on paper. My job is to show them where the lines go.
-Top 10 graduating students most influential teacher (7 times) -Outstanding school educator (2 times- VJHS and BHS) -Outstanding district educator -Top 5 best Colorado Lottery Designs (commercial work) I believe that my greatest award is when teachers send me copies of drawings that their students created with the help of my handouts. I love it when others find my work both fun and useful. I think that helping other teachers develop a student's creativity is the highest honor I will ever receive.
Before and during my college days, I always found some type of art-related work. My education includes illustrating books, working as a sign painter, designing logos and advertisements, t-shirt design and printing along with graphic arts and teaching night classes while in school. As for formal education I have my BFA in visual art and MFA in educational media production.
I started marketing my art handouts in 1993, adding to the collection each year until I now have over 250 individual pages of art lessons, examples and worksheets. My handouts are now used in all 50 states and 12 foreign countries which includes US Embassy schools.
