I have been an EL teacher for the last 10 years. I work with students ranging in grades K-5. I work with many different languages, cultures, abilities, and academic experiences. I co-teach in a second grade classroom for reading, teach book clubs in 1st and 2nd grade, beginning literacy skills in kindergarten, and teach writing/science/history to 5th grade. It's varied, but that's what I love about it!
I like students to be active learners. I like them to be able to move around, interact, talk, and experience their learning. I design activities that encourage talking, collaborating, and deeper thinking. I want them to see how things work and apply that knowledge.
Teacher of the year 2008
Bachelor's Degree Anderson University in Elementary Education and Spanish Master's Degree in Education and EL from Butler University
I have been a Spanish learner for the last 21 years. I love to travel and see new places. Language is hard, but it's worth the work. I know what it's like to learn another language, and I strive to make that process easier for my students.
