TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a special education and English Language Arts teacher for the New York City Public School system. Since the days of my student teaching until now, I have taught in the following settings: *career academcy * alternate assessment * self contained * integrated co-teaching *ESL/Special Education ICT * general education

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am incredibly passionate about travel, story telling, and the human experience. Being an English teacher puts me in a remarkable position to live out and combine these passions each day while sharing these ideas and experience with my students. Rather than students reading literature for the sake of "knowing the classics" I try to make ELA a purposeful and personal experience. I am on an ongoing quest to teach works that are global, diverse, and lend themselves to discussing the current and historical positions of lands near and far. My primary goal is always to incorporate ways to make the literature we study relevant to the lives of my students. I also endeavor to choose literature and activities that better helps my students understand the world around them! I have seen first hand that incorporating my travels into my lessons brings a measure of authenticity and interest into my units. In many of my PowerPoints, I try to incorporate authentic photos, interviews, and anecdotes which I have personally recorded. Enjoy!
