TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for twenty three years, during which time I have been Literacy Coordinator for twelve years. I was an advanced skills Teacher for Literacy for three years during which time I ran staff training, implemented new pedagogies and developed resources. Since the AST system in the UK was stopped, I have continued as a lead teacher to provide training and support for teachers both within and beyond my school. Three years ago I took on the shared role of Assessment Coordinator, to complement my role as Literacy lead in my school - a role which myself and my partner (the Numeracy Coordinator) are constantly developing.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I really believe in creating a classroom culture that develops the children as learners - with a big focus on Guy Claxton's learning attributes and Carol Dweck's growth mindset approach. I am a great believer in collaborative learning and the importance of talk for learning - enjoying activities that encourage children to share ideas and strategies, allowing talk to shape their thinking and move them forwards. I try to make activities both creative and challenging - encouraging children to value mistakes and use them as a springboard for learning. Jo Bolaer has been a huge influence on the style of my teaching in Math.
