I received my credential in 1972. I taught 8 years then took 16 years off to raise four children. During this time I volunteer in my children's schools through high school. I returned to full time teaching in 2000. These last 15 years I have taught Kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and fifth grade. I am still teaching. This year I am teaching second grade.
I love the balanced literacy approach. My students are involved in Interactive Read Alouds, Shared Reading, Reading Workshop, and Writing Workshop. I am trained in C.G.I (Cognitive Math Instruction). Differentiated student progress and strategy groups would be two of main areas of focus. Besides having "Challenging Fun."
In 1975 I was featured on a San Diego television show to talk about my hands on Art History program, "Adelaide" (Art Development Aide). I created student lessons with materials and displays that could be checked out by teachers and taught in their classroom. I was Teacher of the Year for present school in 2011. My husband and I were honored at a community dinner for our philanthropic donations education.
I completed my B.A. in art/art history at University of California at Irvine. I also completed my multisubject credential at U.C.I. I have certificates in CLAD and G.A.T.E. I am a Cotsen Alumni in Writing and have additional training in Reader's Workshop and C.G.I. (Cognitive Guided Math Instruction)
My husband and I have been together 45 years. We have happily raised four adults. Two of my children are attorneys, one is a teacher, and my baby is marketing for a lending bank. We are very proud of our family and their accomplishments.
